Jeev tied 9th in Japan Tour

May 2, 2008

A steady opening round of two-under 68 had Jeev Milkha Singh placed tied ninth in his first appearance on the Japan Tour this year at the 120 million Yen Crowns Tournament at the Nagoya Golf Club Wago Course on Thursday.

Jeev got off to a strong birdie-birdie start and picked up one more shot on the 16th hole but not before dropping his lone bogey on the 12th.

Kiyoshi Miazato and Tatsuhiko Takahashi blasted identical four-under 66 to share the opening round lead.

I saw this news on NDTV 24×7. This channel is excellent for NRIs for the latest news related to India. In the US this channel is available through DirecTV.

Bird flu blamed, as badminton camp abandoned

February 7, 2008

The Badminton Association of India has slammed the sports ministry for a delay in importing shuttlecocks to India.

The delay has proved costly. A national camp for the Thomas and Uber Cup, due to begin in Goa on Thursday, had to be called off today because of a lack of shuttles.

India’s top men’s player Anup Sridhar is ranked 27 in the world. His female counterpart, Saina Nehwal, is ranked 29. However, the two along with the rest of the national team will not be able to practice for the Thomas and Uber Cup qualifiers because the camp has been called off because of the missing shuttlecocks.

VK Verma, the BAI chief, laid the blame on the Sports Authority of India.

By rough estimates, players need 15-20 shuttles a day. BAI claims this has nothing to do with bird flu. It’s just SAI causing procedural delays.

I caught the news on NDTV, I prefer watching NDTV 24×7 as it is India’s most respected news channel and it the news coverage is ‘to the point’ unlike other news channel where every news is a breaking news.

The experience only improves as I have subscribed to DirecTv.

There are absolutely no interruptions as DirecTV delivers a digital signal 99.9% of the time. I also ordered a high-speed Internet connection with the service.

Fantastic day for Indian Cricket

January 25, 2008

Fantastic day for Indian Cricket

It was a fabulous day for the Indian cricket team today with Sachin making 153 in an innings that saw him make his 39th test century. India finished the day with 526 runs against Australia at Adelaide on the second day of the 4th Test. Captain Kumble contributed with the bat in superb form missing his second test century by just 13 runs.

The BCCI garnered almost $ 2 billion by auctioning the city cricket teams for the Indian Premier League scheduled to start in April this year. With so much money being pumped into Indian cricket it is great news for budding Indian cricketers who can now think of taking up their hobby as a profession.

I watched these stories on the Cricket show on NDTV last night. Sonali Chander and Ajay Jadeja anchored the show. There is no other show on Indian TV that provides such in-depth look into Indian Cricket.

In case you’re wondering, NDTV is available here in the US on DirecTV, the best Tv service in the USA.

The Tata Nano is finally here!

January 23, 2008

NDTV reports

Me Thinks: No single product launch in the history of independent India has been as highly anticipated as this car. The Tata Nano or the “People’s Car” has everyone from global automobile companies to the common man on the street, sit up and take notice.

It is everyone’s dream to own a car. Since liberalization and opening up of the Indian economy in the early nineties, affluence and people’s aspirations have grown manifold along with the rapid growth in the economy. It is this demand that the Tata car wants to cater to. It is the millions of two and three wheelers that want to graduate to a safer vehicle that can seat 4 and can be driven in the sun and rain.

It is a highly commendable engineering feat that only the Tatas can achieve in India. I wish them good luck.

In case you’re wondering, NDTV is available on DirecTV here in the US.

Reliance Power IPO recieves blockbuster response

NDTV reports: ‘IPO response reflects confidence’

Press Trust of India

Tuesday, January 15, 2008 (New Delhi):

The response to mega initial public offer by Anil Ambani group’s Reliance Power seems to reflect the confidence of global investors’ in the future of Indian economy, Finance Minister P Chidambaram said on Tuesday.

“It is a reflection of world community in the future of India. Investors seem to be confident in the future of Indian economy,” said Chidambaram on IPO that hit the Market on Tuesday for mopping up to Rs 11,700 crore.

Not only the IPO was fully subscribed within a minute of opening, it generated demand worth over Rs 50,000 crore in less than two hours.

I believe this is a testament to India’s growing status in the world economy and shows what a goldmine our motherland has become for investors all over the world. We NRIs should be the first ones to capitalise on this oppertunity and give back to the country that has given us so much.

I saw a report about this on the NDTV 24*7 channel. Thank god we can still receive Indian channels here in the States. I have a DirecTV connection and i’m so happy with it.
